Terror and Triumph

So I have six minutes before I need to leave for the office (its 9:09 am here), and I thought that I would take this time to give you a glimpse into my life at the moment.

Talking to Students at Coffee Stall
So here goes…

Yesterday (Wednesday) proved to be what we anticipated- a killer day that ended in exhausted triumph.  The plan for every Wednesday is that over the lunch break we will do a coffee stall- in essence, it is street evangelism at its simplest level.  We literally set up a table with coffee and waffles in the middle of the student square and offer them free of charge to anyone passing by.  The catch is that while offering them free food and hopefully planting seeds of love in each person, we are also looking for opportunities to share our testimony and invite them to come to our Pharos events.  As you know, I am not the most outgoing person in the world and pushing things on people is one of the things that I detest the most- yet, funny enough, that is exactly what this task asked for from me.

The other half of the Wednesday Terror/Triumph is the Pharos event- either a prayer meeting or a social event every week on Wednesday evening.  Last night was our first Pharos party which Daniel and I planned.  We were not expecting many people to come- maybe ten people because Pharos is really small still, but we had around 25 people show up and then near the end of the evening, another 10 people came!  I think in part this was due to inviting people during the coffee stall earlier that day, as well as the advertisement around campus and the boys living in this building.  However, as I was talking to Paul (the director of Kairos Europe who also works in our office, or we work in his...) about it this morning, he was saying that though we are doing mostly the same things as previous years, there is something special going on right now.  The Hoy Spirit's presence and guidance is almost tangible.

Wednesday translates to a Terror and a Triumph because on one hand it is exhausting and demanding and the things that we have to do are uncomfortable, yet there is a triumph in being able to be used by the Holy Spirit and being open to be His instrument.  Like emerging after being in the heat of a battle, you have battle scars and dust covering you, but there is a joy in knowing that you were in the service of the king and that you completed what was asked of you to the best of your ability.

So that was my Wednesday.  Today we press on and continue.
